Review of Audeze LCD-4 Over-Ear
The demand for audiophile-grade headphones is increasing day by day. There are a lot of new brands that are manufacturing audiophile-grade headphones, and some of them gained much popularity with time. Audeze is a modern American brand that started its journey in 2008 and is now a well-known brand among audiophiles for its high-quality top-of-the-line headphones. The Audeze LCD 4 Over Ear Over-Ear is a premium “no budget” audiophile headphone from Audeze. It is a flagship that will cost you around 4000 USD. It promises to deliver you the best and unmatched audio experience. Let’s see what these headphones are capable of.
Audiophile gears do not come cheap, though; they are quite expensive because audiophile-grade products are developed with cutting edge technology. The more you spend on high-quality equipment, the better your experience will be. Besides, there are quite a few “no budget” audiophiles who are willing to spend as much money as needed on audio gears for the best listening experience.
First things first, let’s talk about the unboxing. The experience is extraordinary; it will definitely live up to your expectations. It comes with a rugged big briefcase looking box, which looks like a tank. You will be impressed just by looking at the box.
After you open the box, you notice the fully padded case with dense foam interior, and you will see the headphones lying on soft foam. The beauty of these headphones stuns you immediately. You will notice another compartment where you will get the detachable cable and a pair of fabric gloves in case you want to handle them with extra care. It comes with a USB stick as well with some interesting data.

Design and Build
The first thing you will notice about these headphones’ shape is that they are quite bulky in size. The headphone is constructed out of premium materials, which makes it look and feel very solid.
It features a double-layered headband design. The headband portion is made out of carbon fiber, and there’s leather underneath it to ensure a soft and comfortable fitting. The headband is very flexible, and it does a great job of maintaining a firm yet comfortable clamping force.
Earcups of the LCD-4 are round in shape and quite huge in size. The shell of the earcups is made out of wood, and the faceplate is made out of metal. As it is an open-back headphone, the faceplate has a grill design and a polished finish.
As it is a bulky headphone with big earcups, the earpads are adequately padded with memory foam and covered with soft premium leather. The earpads are round in shape, but the center of the earpads, where the ear sits, is a bit oval-shaped, which ensures the best fitting.
This headphone has a reliable build quality with polished metal and wood design. The carbon fiber headband adds a punch to its overall aesthetics. The headphone is a bit on the heavy side; it might get a bit comfortable after an extended period of use. The overall quality of this headphone is a display of fine craftsmanship and of cutting-edge technology.
Fitting and Comfort
Because of the large and soft leather earpads that come with a decent amount of clamping force and the soft leather head support, the fitting will be rather satisfactory. This headphone will not squeeze your head; it will rather create a decent seal around your ears. Unlike other lightweight super comfortable headphones, you will always be able to feel the headphone on your head because of its extra weight. Some might feel that this headphone is too heavy for longer listening sessions.

It comes with Audeze’s premium cable that is long but not too long, perfect in our opinion. The cable is very flexible and sturdy. It is a four-braided cable that has silver-coated conductors and single-crystal OCC copper. The cables are designed to provide the best signal transmission possible.
The Audeze LCD 4 Over Ear features Audeze’s signature planar magnetic drivers, which provide superior frequency response and better overall dynamics. These drivers are thin and fragile. These are nano grade drivers, and they are powered with neodymium Double Fluxor magnets, which manage the power delivery accordingly.
As these headphones are very power-hungry because of those massive drivers, you need a very powerful and high-end source to run this headphone. A top-notch amp and other high-quality audio processing units are highly recommended to squeeze the best out of these headphones. You need high-quality audio sample files as well. Going below16-bit/44.1 kHz CD would be a shame.
The lows are very satisfying as well. The bass is intense and detailed; the response is just amazing. It’s not just that you will listen to the bass with your ears; it comes alive, and your body will be able to feel it as well. In addition, this headphone isn’t heavy on the bass side either; the detail is very dynamic.
The mids deliver crisp and clean details with a perfect balance between the upper and lower mids. The vocals are not the best, which is a bit of a letdown. But cranking up the middle part of the mids through your amp might help in this case. The high frequency is a bit focused on the lower pitches, so instruments producing high-frequency sounds with higher notes lack a bit of character.
The sound staging is also just amazing, one of the bests out there. It will give you “live music” feeling as if you are listening to your favorite band live sitting in the front row. This sensation is something most of the headphones fail to deliver, but not Audeze, though.
This is one of the finest pieces of tech that money can buy. It has its flaws, and clearly, it is not for everyone. So, although this headphone might be expensive, you won’t be disappointed with the purchase if you are a genuine headphone enthusiast.
