Audio Technica ATH-G1WL Design
The ATH-G1WL has a similar design as the M50x range with the same size, shape, and weight. However, the two do have some differences. The earcup is oval-shaped with a blue ring around the logo and looks fabulous. Furthermore, the construction is plastic it would have been nice to have aluminum yokes instead. One of the most radical changes you find in the headband of bare metal with all the screws exposed giving it an industrial look. In between the adjustment bands you have a mix of black and silver. Furthermore, it has a leatherette pad at the crest that makes it comfortable for long gaming sessions. Moreover, it is curved and does not come in contact with your head. To add to the features, you have no echo through the frame if ever you do bump it making them a pleasure to use.
The headband is flexible without making creaking sounds. You can adjust the ear cups for a comfortable fit and covered with leatherette. With the fabric design, we did not find our ears warming up. On the other hand, the earcups rotate to rest them on your chest. The only thing we do not like is the wires that are exposed and can become damaged if snagged. On the head, it is lightweight at 297 grams compared to other gaming headsets.
So you can enjoy an eight-hour gaming session without the headset hurting your head. Another fantastic thing is you can use the headphones for video editing sessions as well. To make it even a better selling point, the earphones wireless, offering you the freedom to move around as well. Unfortunately, the operating time is only 15-hours, but should be enough for a long gaming session. For charging it has a USB Type-C port without fast charging, but you can use it while charging.
Audio Technica ATH-G1WL Performance
To connect the headphones, you need a 2.4GHz dongle as it does not work with Bluetooth. Therefore, you can get some added bandwidth for the best wireless experience. Compared to other wireless headsets, you get a full and rich sound. You have loads of bass with detail in the mids and highs. Even the frequency response range is extensive from 5 to 4 kHz. Furthermore, the dongle also works as a sound card to deliver 7.1 virtual surround sounds.
Once you press the button, you get a more prominent and bass sound with the best stereo imaging. You find all the controls on the left earcup with buttons for monitoring the side tone and muting the microphone. By pressing the volume roller you can activate the surround sound. The only disappointment we found is that there is no 3.5mm jack to use with other devices. Therefore, it is a big drawback when considering the price. Where Audio Technica makes up for the loss, they provide you with the best wireless microphone instead. Therefore, you can use the mic for streaming media, podcasts, or do some light voice with the headphones.
However, the mic does not do a fantastic job at filtering out ambient noise and best to type lightly on your keyboard. When compared to the M50x, you quickly notice the ATH-G1WL is fine-tuned for gaming. The highs are lifted, and the bass is perfect for battle rollers and shooters. The mids are a bit recessed but not in such way that it makes it difficult to hear. You can pinpoint enemies in chaotic times while the stereo imaging is excellent. Even listening to music it works great but is a bit sharp.

Should You Buy it ?
Yes, the Audio Technica ATH-G1WL is one of the best gaming headsets you can buy. You can wear them for hours that are how comfortable they are to wear. The sound is rich and great for remaining competitive in your game as the microphone is the best in its class. However, it would be great if you could connect the EQ profiles to your phone.
If you are looking for the best wireless gaming headset, the Audio Technica ATH-G1WL comes highly recommended. With the RF connection we found no lag in the audio, and it does not sound compressed. While the earphones made for gaming, you can use it for listening to music on your Mac or PC. Furthermore, while the headphone will not help console gamers it is a great option for PC gamers. On the other hand, during our test, the ATH-G1WL even knocks the M50x out of the park. However, if you are not looking for wireless connectivity for gaming you can consider the Beyerdynamic Custom Game as well. These headsets are also comfortable and equipped with exceptional microphones that cost less.
