ATH-M50xBT Design

Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT Review

The ATH-M50xBT looks identical to its predecessor available in only a wired connection. The ATH-M50x is for casual listening and remains a studio-quality headphone. The latest version has an industrial look with the padded headband and thick hinges connected to the cups. So if you need a subtle style these are not for you. However, the heavy-duty construction does have its benefits as you do not need to handle them with mittens on. The collapsible design makes them great for traveling as the earcups rotate 90°.

You can fold them up and place them in the carry pouch included. Furthermore, you can wear them around your neck without it feeling uncomfortable. Moreover, you can buy it in a silver or black shade comprising of a silver ring encircling the logo on the left and right casing. We love the look, but for now, these are the only colors available. On the other hand, we hope they bring out a lighter neutral shade as well.

ATH-M50xBT Performance

If you want high-end audio performance, you will get this using the Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT headphones. You get 45mm drivers with an excellent 15 to 28 kHz frequency response. The warm well-rounded sound impressed us as they are wireless headphones. Measured up to other brands, they stand out from the rest. On the other hand, you get a 1.2-meter cable to use it wired as well. With vocals in the mid-range, they shine with a detailed smooth sound.

Even with intricate vocal harmonies, they blow you away. The vocals clear but with other closed-up designed headphones, it can give a box quality mid-range sound. Therefore, it sounds as if you are listening to tunes with cupped hands, but with these on, we had no problems. You get the right level of accuracy. The bass is punchy and does not linger too long in the soundstage. On the other hand, if you are a bass-head, these headphones may not convince you. You do not get a thumping sound feeling the sub-bass resonating through your body. However, this all depends on your taste. So if you want sonic clarity you do not wish to have a bass-heavy headphone in the first place.

The ATH-M50xBT provides you with a close enough studio experience when listening to original recordings. On the other hand, we did expect more sparkle listening to high frequencies. What makes the headphone stand out is how comfortable they are using it for a long time. The noise isolation works well, and the wireless connection works well. We did not have a connection or drop out issues, and the battery offers you up to 40-hours of use. You charge the earphones with the micro-USB cable included. Alternatively, you can use it wired, as well. On the left can you can call up your phone’s voice assistant. Making calls using the headphones quick, but other people found our voice muffled, making it difficult for them to hear us.

Yes, if you want wireless on the go! The design of the ATH-M50xBT allows you to make these headphones your travel companion. You get acclaimed sound performance with touch controls and hands-free use. The microphone and control button is on the earcups and within reach. With the closed-back design of the earcups and Bluetooth connection, you get outstanding sound. Furthermore, you can use it wired or wireless, with the battery juice lasting up to 40-hours.

Our Verdict

The ATH-M50xBT is the best wireless headphones with a closed-back design. The sound is impressive, and connectivity is a breeze. You can listen to your favorite tunes for hours that are how comfortable these headphones are. The audio quality impressed us, but if you like bass-heavy songs, you will be disappointed. We would have liked the treble frequency to have more sparkle, but they look great on your head. While they have style they are not subtle especially if you do not want an industrial studio look. On the other hand, they perform well when it comes to connectivity and battery use. However, you may struggle to make/receive calls as the microphone is not reliable. With this thought in mind, these are not headphones made for business calls, but the best studio-grade headphone money can buy.
