Bowers & Wilkins C5 S2 Review

Bowers & Wilkins C5 Series 2 In-Ear Headphones, Secure Fit, Black

The Bowers & Wilkins C5 S2 is even better than the original. The clarity is improved, and you get a tighter bass. Furthermore, Apple lovers will be pleased to know it has a three-button remote/mic as well. Not only is the industrial design great, but you also get adjustable loops to keep the buds secure in your ears.

Bowers & Wilkins C5 S2 Design

Bowers & Wilkins C5 Series 2 In-Ear Headphones, SBowers & Wilkins C5 Series 2 In-Ear Headphones, Secure Fit, Blackecure Fit, Black

  • The in-ear C5 exterior design is unchanged compared to the older model, and the only tweaks made are on the sound. The Series 2 has a black design with translucent cable.
  • We found some minor changes made to the ear tips and found it more comfortable. The construction is rubber with a slight geometry alteration.
  • Furthermore, there is a radius found at the end instead of a sharp edge for comfort. Moreover, you still have a secure loop with an adjustable fit to secure the buds in your ear.
  • However, we did find it is not great for all people to use. Some of our staff found the buds comfortable, but others did not. Compared to the original model, we give B&W thumbs up.
  • The headphones finished with an aluminum/tungsten color with a sturdy build. However, we still prefer the L-shaped plug more than the standard one on the previous model.
  • With the slim design, it makes using the earphones easier with your phone if it has a protective case. Furthermore, it helps if you got a tight seal as well and quickly done with the ear tips included.
  • To keep the headset protected, you have a carry case included and works well. There is also an inline remote/mic for Apple users to make/receive calls.
  • You can use it with an Android device, but not all the functions will work.

Bowers & Wilkins C5 S2 Performance

  • Before testing the C5 S2, we familiarized ourselves with the original B&W C5. The C5 has a rich and warm sound without lacking detail until compared to the latest model.
  • A fact is there is a massive difference as the sibling sounds sweet, but the series two does have more clarity. The resonance is superb in both the midrange and treble with deeper articulated bass.
  • Listening to music with the B&O C5 S2 is a treat with live recordings as it makes you feel as if you are there. On the other hand, we compared it to the affordable RE-400 that is also an in-ear headphone from HiFiMan. When listening to orchestral music, the sound is thin on the RE-400, but the C5 S2 gives a fantastic sparkle.
  • When listening to bass resonance, the RE-400 has excellent stereo imaging and does not leave the sound stuck inside the head. While the C5 Series 2 gives open imagery that is also nice.
  • However, when listening to less-than-stellar recordings, the headphones can reveal much harshness as well.

Should You Buy it?

Yes, if you want a great sounding pair of earphones for use with your phone, the Bowers & Wilkins C5 C2 is perfect. The semi-open design has driver vents while the imaging is open like in-ears models. Furthermore, it has a loop cable to keep the earpiece secure in your ears. You get powerful audio performance with excellent balance. However, you do find the earphones projects some sound outwards. You will love the comfort of wearing them at the office, home, or on-the-go.

Our Verdict

We found the Bowers & Wilkins C5 S2 a great pair of over-ear headphones to listen to a wide selection of music. For some users, the secure loop is perfect, while others may find it uncomfortable to wear. While the price is high, it remains one of the best sounding earphones that are worth looking at. The headset is stylish and comfortable to wear for hours.
