Sennheiser RS 175 RF Wireless Design
The Sennheiser RS 175 RF wireless has a new first-rated wireless technology that delivers an interference-free resonance. The operating band is 2.4GHz and offers up to a 328-foot range. You get a closed-back and over-ear design that does a fantastic job of preventing sound leakage. Furthermore, they fit snug enough to watch a two-hour movie as well. Setting up the wireless headphones simple and comprise of the earphones with a transmitter that also doubles up as a charger.
The base station is lightweight, and you can tuck it away out of view. On the back of the base station, you have the digital optical connection with an analog mini-jack input. Therefore, you can connect it to any audio component that has the same outputs. In the box, you also get an optical and audio cable with a power supply and four adapters. On the other hand, you get two rechargeable batteries with a quick guide, as well.
Sennheiser RS 175 RF Performance
For our testing, we used the digital optical connection incorporated into our television and plugged it directly to the cable box. Therefore, you get a plugin and play situation. You plug the AC adapter into the transmitter with the power plug to the wall. Then you use the encompassed optical cable as easy as that, and you are ready to start watching movies. However, if you use the dedicated TV earphone jack as an alternative to the audio output, you will cut off the speaker of the set. With each headphone in the series, you get different functions and sounds.
When you buy the RS 165, you get a bass boost without virtual surround modes. The RS 175 has a similar design than the RS 165 that is closed-back. The RS 185 offers you an open-back structure that will provide you with a detailed sound with physical level control. Now, if you want the Mercedes of the collection, the RS 195 also has a closed-back design but addresses your hearing needs as well. The battery use is up to 18-hours, and you can buy a 2nd pair to use with the base station as both pairs at the same time.
How is the wireless performance?
While the wireless range is rated at 328-feet, we could not reach this connection but could step outside the office with a glitch-free sound to about 50-feet away. Furthermore, walking from one office to another, the RS 175 performed great without a drop in the signal. There was no noise or stutter heard. The sound is excellent compared to similarly priced headphone models. The resonance is well-balanced, listening to movies and music.
However, the bass can sound overly rich at times. When switching between the optical digital or analog input, we found no difference in sound quality. As the RS 175 has a closed-back design, you do not get a spacious resonance, but it does not leak sound. What does open up the sound a bit is using the two-step Surround Sound function. On the other hand, we did find using it plain stereo more immediate with a sharper stereo imaging. Here it all comes down to your preference of sound. Using the bass boost does kick it up but found the non-bass boost level satisfying.
